Path 101, a new alpha site released to the public yesterday, is hoping to be the guidance resource for your career indecision. They’ve crawled millions of resumes across public Web pages to build a database of information on what people typically do with various work histories, skills, and educational backgrounds.

With Path 101 users can do three things: take a personality quiz for insight on appropriate industries, get detailed analytics on the state of their resume, and ask and answer career-related questions anonymously.

Most importantly, Path 101’s resume analyzer can process documents, public LinkedIn profiles, and other online resumes, which means you have a myriad of options to leverage the site’s database of information. When all is said and done, you can get a telling view, complete with graphs and data, of how you compare to other people with the same background.

Path 101 also integrates with FacebookFacebook reviews and TwitterTwitter reviews, so should you want to share your results with friends you can do so with just a few clicks.

The Path 101 blog post on the launch explains part of the vision behind the site: “We believe that it’s not that people don’t know what they want to do with their careers–they just don’t know what’s out there to do.  By crawling the web for resumes and analyzing that data in our Resume Genome Project, we’re learning more and more about what real career paths actually look like and figuring out how best to expose that data.”

We’re impressed with Path 101’s approach to career guidance, enjoy the privacy options for worry-free question posing, and think that it’s certainly a helpful resource for those who need a push a better direction.
